progress and WendyWendy

yes, I did type that right! our cats name is Wendy, but she
often gets called WendyWendy.

She was playing with LittleMan the other day, and gave
him a pretty good scratch across the forehead.
I panicked.
He cried. (and I mean CRIED. and HARD.)
I thought she had gotten his eye! (but she didn't)
that was pretty much the last straw, so we promptly took her
up to the spca and got Soft Paws put on her.

they work wonders! I wish we would've gotten them sooner!
They get glued on, and after about 6 weeks, we take her back
up and they'll put some more on her again.

isn't she puuurty?
she'll be getting pink soft paws next time!
click {here} for more info on soft paws. and check with your local spca!

I've been working on BigMans quilt lately.
I've decided what my other two embroidery blocks will be,
and I have a general idea of the how the layout is going to go.
Here's how the dissapering 9 patch blocks are turning out so far:

they aren't attached to each other, i just wanted to fit them all in the frame!
I still need to pick up a few more red FQ's, but so far I'm pretty happy with them!
There's nothing better than freshly ironed quilting fabric :)

Oh, and here's the poppy block, all finished!
I haven't been able to any other sewing other than quilting done,
but I'm going to try and get a tutorial up for a project I'm itching to get done!

Photography Ideas

*I've got a sewing tutorial coming up, but I wanted to share this real quick!

Here's a few photography links that are some of my favourites.
I'm always looking for inspiration, and there's all kinds of it here.
There's different styles, tips, equipment reviews, etc.

I've really been getting my patootie in gear with my photography again,
even if it's just family photos.
I've been editing more, and having fun with it again - mission accomplished :)

Hopefully, I'll be able to get out and do some more artistic
shots and start a new portfolio sooner rather than later, once it warms up a little bit of course. I'm a bit of wimp when it comes to the cold!

Do you have any photo websites that you follow?

1 cup shredded chedder cheese

1: layer potatoes and ham in slow cooker.
2: combine soup and water in bowl and pour over potatoes and ham.
3. cover and cook on high for 3 1/2 hours until potatoes are fork tender. reduce to low and cook
for another hour.
4. grate cheese and and spread over ham and potatoes and let melt for 5-10 minutes.

Enjoy!

1 of 2: Big Mans Quilt

I've gotten some more work done on the embroidery blocks
for big mans quilt. I've started taken it into work with me now
that I'm on nights and it's a little bit slower.

here's the poppy block that I'm still working on. hopefully this will be done
in a couple of days.

and here's the "support our troops" ribbon.
I'm thinking about doing a maple leaf for another block, and I
still need one more image, I haven't decided what yet.

for the rest of the quilt I am going to do a dissapearing
9 patch. I've been collecting red fat quaters with
different patterns, I'm excited to be making some
progress!

Breadmaker Bagels

I recently got a breadmaker.
in fact, I got it from BigMan for christmas!

I made some bagels today, they turned out really well and I plan on making them again.

I even added cheese to a few of them towards the end of the baking, delicious!

and...
I typed up the recipe to share with you!
DOWNLOAD FILE
I do them in .pdf format and they're in 12x12 scrapbook format.
I'm thinking about doing them in another size as well, possibly a size that would work to view on an e-reader? let me know what you think, and let me know how you're bagels turn out!

Home Sweet Home

we're finally home sweet home!
we've been visiting family and vacationing over the past month.
we've been to three different provinces, and celebrated 2 holidays.

we're home now and getting back into routine.
It's a new routine, as I've cut back quite a bit on my hours at work.
this will allow me to have more time with Little Man and feel more like a housewife!
more baking, cooking, cleaning and crafting.

I'm ready for it to be spring (goodbye winter, please! soon!)

I mentioned I got a new sewing machine for christmas right?
I didn't?
here it is!
i also got a bread machine!

I'm looking for an old table to use in my crafty room. I haven't found it yet, but when I do....I'm painting it this color:

pantone's official color of the year 2011!
i'm also thinking a nice deep green for shelves/storage unit.

What do you think?
Updates to come with photos soon!

i've been looking for inspiration all over the place.
i've found some in vintage sheet quilts and other blogs.
while browsing the kodak blog today, i found this challenge.
so, I'm going to try and cross something off this list every day!
which means more blog posts as well! yay!
I'm also working on getting photoshop CS5 on our computer.

Let me know if you decide to tackle this list, and share what you accomplish :)

Kodachrome: 1935-2010

I'd like to take a moment of silence to remember kodachrome.

June of 2009 Kodak announced they would stop producing this particurlar line of film. (where was i?)
Dec 31 2010, the last store to develop the film stopped taking orders.
I much prefer film over digital...this day brings me great sadness.

The last roll of film that kodak produced was given to photographer Steve McCurry, who produced this photo:

the work he's produced with the last roll ever can be seen here.
